The world of publishing is smashing through the glass ceiling and opening doors otherwise locked for authors. You’ve written a good story and now it’s time to send your baby out into the world.
I have an article to help you make the decision on how you want to publish.
Once you’ve thought about your options and decided to self-publish, then what?
4 Things to Do Before You Self-Publish
- Get a fresh pair of eyes on your story. A critique, an edit, a beta reader. This one thing can make the difference between lackluster sales and great sales. Even Stephen King has typos.
- Go ahead and set up your profile on Kindle Direct Publishing. They have step-by-step instructions. You want to do this early so you can take some time to read their information on things like taxes, how you get paid, and royalty choices such as KDP Select. Do you live outside of the United States and need tax information?
- Get your social media set up and start selling yourself as a person. Here is my article on branding and marketing to help you navigate the world of tweeting, posting, blogging, or whichever you choose.
- An author website is a great place to keep all your publications in one place for your fans. They are easy to set up and free on places like WordPress and Weebly. I know WordPress the best, so I always recommend that one.
I have spent a lot of time getting to know people in the publishing industry. All the links I have here are trustworthy business men and women who I either know personally or come highly recommended, and they do a great job for reasonable rates.
